| The pub was un-clean, I found traces of drugs in the toilets and the sunday lunch we had was awful, my wife came down ill. | we visited helperby for open gardens day and decided to try the golden lion for sunday lunch, as we had heard so much about it. the pub was really busy, but we were greeted by a friendly cheerful waitress who apologised that there were no free tables, but she would find us one as soon as one became available. we decided to wait and as we watched the delicious looking food being served to the other diners, we sampled some of their fine yorkshire cask ales. the beer was absolutely delicious, you could tell it was really well-kept. when a table became free we were seated, and all four of us had chosen something different. i had the beef, and i have never tasted such delicious meat. the whole meal was piping hot and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. the landlady does all the cooking, and has had 20yrs experience so we were told, and you could tell by the presentation. the gravy was superb and we will definately be returning to the golden lion on a regular basis. | IT HAS BECOME OBVIOUS THAT THIS SITE HAS BECOME A PLATFORM FOR 'SLAGGING OFF' THE OPPOSITION. THE BEST WAY TO JUDGE THE GOLDEN LION IS TO TRY IT YOURSELVES. THERE ARE A REGULAR 60 TO 70 PEOPLE WHO FREQUENTLY RETURN TO THE GOLDEN LION FOR SUNDAY LUNCH RATING IT THE BEST SUNDAY LUNCH EVER.
