| We came to this pub having been recommended it by locals for its food.We had been warned that the landlord could be a little hostile. Arriving at the pub, our party of 10 people were told that we could wait in the bar as the pub wasn`t yet open, 6.30p.m. The seemingly friendly hosts cooed over our 19 month nephew while we waited until the landlord and landlady were ready to serve us. As the drinks were ordered we noticed a rising tension when we asked for glasses for our cokes rather than just a bottle and straw. On enquiring as to the vegatarian option for one of our diners we were greeted by `no one mentioned veggies when you booked your table`. This situation was saved by a pleasant waitress who was more than pleased to see what the chef could do. When another family arrived we were told in no uncertain manner that the 19 month old nephew was to know sit down and not move!. If we had not overheard the other family order their vegatables as extras to their already over priced meal the landlord would have served us a chicken breast on a plate as he never mentioned that veg or potatoes were extras and happily took our orders without. Under normal circumstances we would have got up and walked out, but here we felt that things could get really nasty. The food was really very good, but with no starters on the menu and £185 on the bill for 6 adult meals and 4 kids meals we decided to pass on the deserts. How this couple have managed to stay in business is a miracle, being self employed in retail I know how important it is to please the customer.[Report for Removal] | P.Thurlow Newark Nottinghanshire |

| The Inn has character and Keith the landlord is a character, both are delightful. Mandy made us very welcome as soon as we arrived showing us our room and providing a tea in the lounge. Excellent food, generous portions, can't wait to re-visit. Yes the heating and hot water could be improved, but the warmth of the welcome more than compensates in this 15th. century grade 2 listed building. Double glazed over-insulated box it is not, if thats what you want try Travel Lodge. [Report for Removal] | Brendan Gahan Prestwich Manchester |

| The most unfriendly unwelcoming and uncomfortable place i have EVER stayed. The room was freezing,no hot water, had to hunt for tea tray(hidden at bottom of almost impossible cupboard to get open)After waiting six hours still freezing. The whole pub is no bigger than a shoe box and if you don,t mind the bar/public toilet right outside your door or the screaming of the grandchild(who lives there along with its teenage mother)everything can be heard from the bar or if in bar heard from room(actually heard hubby using loo in our room whilst I was downstairs in the bar trying to keep warm by open fire which puffs out a face full of smoke intermittently). If looks can kill then don,t look at mandy the landlady and if its privacy you want, forget it, as kieth the landlord will not leave you alone for a minute, bursting to tell you everything about everything!!This pub should come with a warning sign Fleeced!!(don,t EVER give your card details over phone)[Report for Removal] | mrs eldon peterborough lincs |

| Having had my parents suffer a horrible 30th Wedding annivrisoy at The BeeHive, i advise, indeed beg people not to go through the same and stay away from this average looking, small, extermaly cold and unwelcoming place with a disburbed and tense landlady Mandy, and hen-pecked husband Keith. My parents love the area and go up as much as they can, but this has totally changed now. If you perfer to have a landlady shout at you and not care if you are warm and comfertable for £65 per night than this s the place for you![Report for Removal] | Miss R.G Eldon Spalding Lincs |

| Be Warned... DO NOT stay at the beehive inn, Newholm Whitby. Our 30th wedding anniversary ended up with my wife (registered disabled) being arrested at 23.30. After Mandy the landlady called police to have us kicked out simple for asking for a small heater for the very, very, very cold room. Which resulted in lots of cuts and bruises delivered by two heavy handed Whitby PC's. Plus a 3 hour wait at hospital advised by police surgeon fearing broken bones. Once home discovering they had taken £130 out of our account. Their licence should be revoked. [Report for Removal] | P. N. Eldon peterborough cambridgeshire |

| The Beehive in Newholm must be typical of so many inns/pubs of that certain age horse brasses dark low beams and an inviting open fire so what make this inn just that bit better. Our hosts Mandy and Keith make you feel welcome; Keith especially can provide you with plenty of local knowledge and background to the surrounding area. The rooms are tidy and clean and as good as any we have stopped in before, the drink was good (Theakstons bitter), not great but I certainly downed a few, the food now that was good, better than good. There is no set menu but around 7 o’clock a chalkboard appears with the menu for that evening fresh for that day. All the food we had over the duration of our stay was excellent. The lamb and Esk salmon were exceptional. A word of warning the Friday and Saturday get very busy best to ring first and there was no food served on the Monday we where there. If you do stay the breakfast (full English) will set you up for the day and take half to walk off. [Report for Removal] | Harry/Dawn West Bromwich West Midlands |

| We decided to stay at the Beehive solely due to the excellent reputation of the food. However, to our dismay - after a lovely day in Whitby - we arrived back to be told that the chef had left as he didn't think we were coming back and that there was no food available??! We subsequently had to drive back into Whitby for a takeaway pizza which we reluctantly ate in the bar (totally empty except for us and the family Dog! who sat begging for scraps). The eerie atmosphere continued and we slowly realised that not only were we the only guests at the Inn but that it was to all concerned, closed. We were very disappointed as we felt that we paid under false pretences (ie. that 1. we would have a chance to sample the great food and 2. it would be in the company of other guests - and not the drooling/tail-wagging kind!) As a result we ate in Whitby at a wonderful restaurant - Greens - the following night and, dread to think how our stay would have been if we had not had a car..... I would strongly advise asking about the availability of food (and if it's actually open!) before paying good money to stay out of Whitby. The apparent ongoing paranoia of the landlord was justified by the above....[Report for Removal] | Seth and Suzanne Manchester Lancashire |

| A recent trip to Whitby was spoiled by the Beehive accommodation!! Cold water, cold rooms, a huge 'romantic' bath that feels like sandpaper on your bottom and takes an eternity to fill (with cold water!) along with dirty looks and comments should you want tea bags and coffee to go with your kettle makes you think this aint the most hospitable place in the North!!!!!! The landlord knows everything there is to know - except how to look after his guests and whatever happens don't cross him or complain about anything he'll convince you it was your own fault!!!! Though we never met the chef - he does know his job and the food was good but completely overshadowed by the 'know-it-all' landlord who interferes in conversation, dominates discussion and appears to prefer to play his guitar instead of pouring a pint!! Early breakfast i.e. before 9am is frowned upon and be prepared to be told that you have to expect to feel cold as you are 'probably from down south with a little centrally heated semi with double glazing' Oh how understanding Mr Keith is The pub has few customers and in our opinion deserves less.[Report for Removal] | Peter Hill Ashby de la Zouch Leicestershire |

| The beer here is the worst anywhere which is such a crying shame as the place itself - and the food - is amazing. The landlord as well as not knowing how to keep his beer in good condition is dangerous to disagree with - ask any local![Report for Removal] | Once-a-regular Manchester M16 8AT |
