| New years 2006 and 12 people including myself were staying at a near by holiday cottage in East Knoyle, we had run out of alcohol and food so decided to give the local pub a go. It took, 20 minutes of intense staggering to get there (this was just in the afternoon of new years eve after a heavy night before) where upon we were warmly welcomed with a beautifully maintained pub where mild mannered staff and pleasant locals were in abundance. We all had a delicious meal and a few beers and jokingly said we would be back later in the evening to see new year in. Their exact words were 'we would be delighted to see you'. Something all 12 of us have never heard before!! ( we aren't that bad honest! Just a little loud and jolly). We came back later that evening and went into the conservatory to make sure we kept our rowdiness to ourselves, the landlord came in and said he had reserved us a table and we should join the rest of the pub! Wonderful. New years eve is my birthday and I was presented with a bottle of champagne with a straw!! I couldn't ask for much more! The whole pub sang happy birthday and soon found myself slipping into a merry haze :). I would like to put on record how much we all appreciated the fantastic hospitality give to our large group, we are a bunch of rugby lads with our wives and girlfriends and as you can imagine a little loud, but not rude! Even so we were greeted with open arms in this wonderful pub. I will make an effort to go there again and may even hire the cottage next year just for the pub!
