| If you really like your bitter and real ale (plus proper malt scottish whisky) then go to the back bar of this pub and you will be in paradise. No huge noise; no trouble; mainly male (middle- aged) clientele. You just wouldn't expect this pub in lager-swilling Stevenage - particularly in Broadwater! But there it is. Absolutely no problems with the service either. The beers rotate regularly and there are normally at least five to six real ales to choose from. There is a bit of a clique to the back bar area but that is true of so many real ale pubs. They are harmless and leave you to your own devices. Come in here for a conversation, to relax, mull over or whatever else you want to do with a couple of real ales or more. The front bar is an atypical pub bar so I dont venture in. The back bar is a CAMRA drinkers paradise. Hence the awards won. Really was stunned when I went in and just find it an oasis away from the branded pubs and noise of so many watering holes.
