| Just got home from the Rock and Fountain. Went there on a recommendation, I certainly wouldn't recommend it. I ordered Stilton and Pasta bake. What turned up was what I can only describe as one of them pasta in a mug meals, but not so tasty. I cannot begin to describe how bad this meal was, 15 pieces of tricolour pasta with a watery brocolli sauce, not a hint of Stilton anywhere. I can only thank them for serving it in a very small portion, otherwise I would have felt obligated to eat it at £7.50. In all my years of eating out, all over the country, that was the worst meal I have ever eaten,(And I've been to Butlins). I have never left a review or any sort of comment before, but I felt the need to warn people of the shoddy food in this place. I felt that my dissatisfaction of the meal warranted a word with the staff, which I did, thinking that they would like any feedback. What a surprise, they didn't give a toss. | We have just returned home after having a meal in the Rock and Fountain. We went there with high expectations as we had been told that it was a good place to go, we were so disappointed that we felt obliged to put it into writing. We were seated at a filthy table, no one had even wiped it after the previous diner. As we had a little baby I asked for a high chair, it came and it was covered in melted ice cream and some other unidentified substance, luckily I had wet wipes and proceeded to clean the table and the high chair.We ordered our meals. There was two other diners in the section where we were seated. We waited approximately 30 minutes for a piece of garlic bread to arrive. We waited in excess of 50 minutes for the meals to arrive. They arrived but without the potatoes and chips. "They are just coming" the waitress told us. We proceeded to wait for 10minutes during which time the meals of the diners behind us were served "With chips" we continued to wait. Again we were told "they are coming now". By this time 15 mins or more had passed. My husband ate his cod and my son his steak ....... all without the chips. When the waitress eventually brought the chips upon seeing the eaten meat and fish said "oh that was quick" left the chips and disappeared. My mum and I continued to wait for the sidesalads that never arrived. We asked for the bill it came for nearly £92!!! We had six cans of soft drink, two fish, one steak and one ribs!!!! I advised the bar man that this did not come to £92 he said "well you have had 4 meals" He was extremely arrogant. He said he would add it up again, this time he said it came to £62. Again I said that it was wrong.I added it up for him it came to £50. The waitress said she used a calculated but still charged us £40 too much. The owner came over, I told her what had happened. She asked me if my adding was correct!!!! After 20 years working in a bank I would think it is!! No apology for the late food, no apology for the missing salads. "lets just call it what you say it is" All the staff including the bar man and even the owner just repeated "its not my fault I have only just come into work". Well Pauline take a tip from me accept that there is a problem and apologise for it do not blame everything else. I handed over £60 and even had to ask the owner for my change!!! It came after another 10 minute wait. We did not complain to have money off but after being there for nearly 2 hours and having to fight for the right price to pay a sincere apology or even a free coffee or desert would have meant something. | Our half-eaten meals and side-orders were completely cleared from our table whilst one of us was buying a lager at the bar and the other was in the toilet. When we politely queried this, we were told by the waitress that as we had 'almost finished' our meals she has cleared them away. After some time the manageress appeared and offered us £2.00 (i.e. £1.00 each) off our bill. We considered this a derisory offer for the loss of at least half of our food, but no further offer OR apology was forthcoming. We were left sitting there wondering what to do, but nothing else happened so we went to the bar to query the matter. There we were told that we had 'had our food for nothing and that was the end of it'. Oh well... We would have been quite happy to negotioate a settlement for the food we had eaten (around 50%)or to have received a dessert and coffee in place of the missing food, but in the end the staff were so blatently rude and unhelpful that we decided to go, having first confirmed with the aforesaid manageress that no payment was to be made.
