| We went there for Sunday lunch, a party of 9. All of us chose the Sunday Roast, and it was very average at best. Portions were ok, but quality was disappointing. Roast potatoes were not crispy, just very oily, veg were ok, meat was very average. Service was abrupt and not very friendly. Probably won't return. | We last visited this Pub two years ago, and having heard it was now under new management, we visited last Saturday lunch time and was most pleasantly surprised - very clean, very attentive friendly Italian staff, big log fire roaring in the bar inglenook, food excellent and LARGE! so we only could manage a main course, and the coffee was real Italian cappucino - certainly will visit again. | This is the second time we have eaten Sunday lunch at the Shoulder of Mutton since it has been under new management... The first occasion (about 3 months ago) we all had the traditional Sunday roast, which is BIG and was very good. Service was OK - not rushed, not slow either. Today we returned and how things have changed... We decided to try something different from the Sunday menu - big mistake... Starters: Potato Skins are just chunky peelings that are deep fried (not crispy) - not enough actual potato and not what we were expecting... The 'Chilli Nachos' were terrible. The tortilla chips were soaked in oil/grease. Far too much cheese... Mains: Battered Cod - Soggy batter and soggy chips Chilli - a too little greasy - rice was OK. Deserts: Profiteroles - the choux buns were crunchy and they were filled with fake ('whippy') cream and Nutella chocolate sauce.. not great - especially as there is no nut (or other allergy) advice given. Chocolate Fudge cake - was good - apart from the cream... 3 courses cost approx. £20.00 per head - inc soft drinks (i.e. no alcohol).
