| This pub has changed hands and the new menu and quality of food is excellent and good value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful. Its a large pub with a separate resturaunt but you can also eat in the cosy and quaint pub area. It seems to be an eating pub. The ambience is good. | The Bun Penny has been transformed in 2009--as people that live in Lee on the Solent we are very pleased about this. Up to now we have only had Pubs that have been owned by large company's and have been poorly refurbished by there owners with bland food and poor beer. Now we have a pub that has very good food and 4 changing real ales To the new owners we say --long may it continue---The Bun Penny now has all that a pub should have-- good looks-- good food and good real ale with good well presented polite people to serve the public. | LOVELY VENUE RUBBISH FOOD. OVER THE LAST TWENTY YEARS FROM TIME TO TIME I SAMPLED THE FOOD AT THE BUN PENNY AND THEY HAVE CONSISTANTLY SERVED POOR TO BAD FOOD .ITS ONLY PUB FOOD BUT THEY CANT GET THAT RIGHT. THE LAST TIME WE USED IT FOR A SANDWICH AFTER A LONG WAIT WE WERE PRESENTED WITH TWO DOORSTEP SLICES OF STALE BREAD ALMOST NO FILLING AND LETTUCE LIMP BROWN WAY PAST SALE BY DATE NO DRESSING OR PICKLE, DIRTY GLASSES AND ON COMPLAINING WERE TOLD BY A MEMBER OF STAFF THAT THERE PARENTS WOULD NOT EAT THERE .SHAME ON THE OWNERS FOR SETTING SUCH A LOW STANDARD AND TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH IT . | After having run several bars and working in a kitchen for a few years, I have to say this the worst meal I have ever had in any pub or restaurant in any country I have ever been to. Couldn't quite believe how dirty the glasses were - I would have been fired for giving something like that to a customer. The meal itself was a complete disgrace. I ordered a burger and chips with a side of onion rings. I am not exaggerating when I say 5 small onion rings turned up on the plate. The burger was completely plain - no salad or dressing. The shephards pie was barely edible and tasted of cardboard. On complaining about the meal at the end, as no one was willing to check our table, I was told that it was down to 'New legislation'.
