| We ended up at Rose Cottage quite by accident yesterday. Enjoying the back roads of the East Midlands on a Wednesday afternoon and looking for lunch. The service was warm and welcoming from the start. It was a lovely spring day so my son and I decided to eat outside. I ordered the Braised Beef with Horseradish Dumplings. My son was disappointed that the Chicken Bacon and Mushroom Pie was sold out, so ordered simple grilled chicken. When the food arrived, it was simply presented and the servings were quite generous. My beef was probably the best I have had; falling apart, full of flavour, enhanced by the dumplings and crowned with herbed, roasted carrots. I would go back for this dish alone. The service and the lovely setting of Rose Cottage will definitely bring me back.[Report for Removal] | Dan B Peterborough Cambridgeshire |

| We went on 25th July (Sat night) for a meal and drinks. On arrival, we were seated to a table and waited 15 minutes before going to the bar to ask about the delay. The drinks had been sat on the bar, but had not been brought over to us. We ordered a starter which was satisfactory and two steaks for the main course. The sirlon steaks they did not have so we ordered the rib-eye. This came after another wait as which the additional drinks took time to arrive. The food was not hot enough, a tomato the size of a cricket ball eclipsed the steak which is ok if you like them, no other garnish was present apart from letuce leaves. Where was the onion rings/mushrooms? Despite the steak being cold it was a good cut and would have been nice had it been warm. One of the meals also was drenched in what appeared to be water, which made the lukewarm chips also soggy. We did not ask for the meal to be discounted in any way but did point out that we were very unhappy with the meal. The landlady/manager provided us with a sort of an apology. In our opinion, had the apology been genuine, she should have been honest from the start and givin us the opportunity to dine elsewhere. When we left, we also found the landlady/manager to be unprofessional. [Report for Removal] | Wendy Mansfield Nottinghamshire |

| We travelled from chesterfield to this pub for my mum's birthday and wished we'd stayed at home. With the exception of a few dishes the food was terrible. To name but a few things: The mash potatoe was cold and tasteless and so was the soup, The gravy was like water, The vegetables for the dishes failed to turn up, The Lamb shoulder was all fat, The fish was full of bones and the batter was soggy, The cottage burger looked like charcoal and had a very strange veggie burger taste, We were waiting ages between courses. On a brighter note the service, (with exception to the landlady) was excellent. The waiters and waitress's were very helpful and polite despite our complaints. The landlady failed to attend to the situation in person but then made impolite remarks as we left the building. She did later appologise using her grandma's ill health as an excuse, (how original).[Report for Removal] | Harley Chesterfield Derbyshire |
