| The 'New' Big Shop is unrecognisable from The 'Old' Big Shop. It is bright and airy and resembles All Bar One in it's decor. The staff are friendly and they have a lovely dining area and a great menu (steaks are especially good, possibly because the owner used to be a butcher?). Unfortunately The New Big Shop lets itself down when it comes to serice around dining... if only they could be more attentive to their diners they'd reap the benefits. Having dined there a lot it is very common to have dirty plates sitting in front of diners without being removed promptly between courses, empty glasses sitting without staff offering top ups - more often that not dining has to be interupted to go to the bar to get more drinks in while dining staff mill around oblivious. If the Big Shop could set some standards in their staff it would not only make the dining experience more enjoyable, but it would no doubt result in more people returning time and time again... I know a lot of people who just don't go anymore purely because the dining service was not up to scratch and I hate to say I think I may become one of them. You could argue that it's a small pub in a small village and what do you expect - but the prices are not small pub prices, they are restaurant prices and diners have a right to expect restaurant service in return. Otherwise a friendly, airy pub, good entertainment is laid on most weeks and it is a welcome addition to the ever expanding village of Glenboig.
