| We had specifically booked a table for 4 people as it was my mother’s birthday and my parents were staying with us who had travelled from Chester. Firstly, when we originally booked the table at the bar we were not told that the a la carte menu would not be available at Easter especially as this is a busy time for people eating out. We noticed other people were not happy with the table d’hote menu and left after they had looked at it but we decided to stay anyway. I ordered the avocado and prawns to start with which was served in a red cabbage leaf, the prawns were tiny shrimps and the avocado was rock hard, it was awful. This and my mother’s soup were both served with 2 slices of doorstep white bread which was just not appropriate. My husband and father both had the fish and chips. We have never seen such a tiny piece of cod and were not impressed. But the worst thing of all was my mother (whose birthday it was) had ordered the honey roast gammon but what she got was thin slices of fatty bacon joint which she didn't eat, NOT gammon at all as advertised on the menu, she was most upset. Both this meal and my roast beef meal should have been served with Yorkshire pudding which we had to ask for and came at the end of our meal. Also, both meals came completely smothered in watercress which is not what you want to see on a roast dinner. We complained to the waitress and advised we were not paying for the so called gammon and decided to cut our losses and leave without dessert or coffee. When the bill did arrive the correct meals were not present, it said 3 pork bellies etc. etc. as apparently the till could not cope with the new Easter menu items. In our view this should have been hand written so we could understand what we were paying for. The bill was £65 with wine and what a total waste of money, we were upset and devastated.
