The Haddon Hall seems to be coming out of a difficult period of late and there are some signs that efforts are being made to make improvements. The pub has recently had a 'lick of paint' both on the inside and exterior of the building, although the toilets are still in desperate need of attention. New Management has been brought in recently (July 2007) and already there are signs that he isn't going to stand for any "messing" in terms of rowdy behaviour (or worse). Time will tell. Benches have recently been barred from the outside car park due to rowdy behaviour, but with an inadequate ventilation system/fans; this can make the interior very stuffy on warm, sunny days. One recent feature has been the introduction of orange-bulb-lighting. I'm not sure whether the intention was to create a warm, friendly atmosphere, but it leaves everyone looking like they've been sprayed with false tan and creates a depressing, morgue-like atmosphere. It needs changing...fast. Anyone who suffers with 'SAD' (Season Affective Disorder) should avoid this pub in winter, unless the bulbs are changed of course. One improvement that has gone down a treat, especially with sports lovers, was the purchase of two, brand new wide-screen plasma TVs. Together with a new, improved projector for the 'big screen' (and the original, "ordinary" telly in the corner), there are now 4 screens pointing in various direction. This is probably the best improvement seen at the Haddon for many-a-year. Well done! The 'clearing away of' ashtrays and general cleanliness of the tables and building needs improving, but things seem to be 'on the up' overall. Commenting on the review posted by Becky, I can only assume that she either sets her standards very low indeed or is, somehow, connected to the pub...possibly staff. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but how anyone can give the Haddon Hall 5-stars is beyond me. It's slowly improving, but not to that extent. I can think of far better pubs than the Haddon who don't quite deserve 5 stars themselves. She obviously didn't know the Haddon Hall as it was 'way back when' to around the mid-to-late 90s...[Report for Removal] Anne

this pub is warm and friendly and has a really comfortable atmosphere. The staff are always polite and smiling and chatty towards customers. The food is of a high standard and the choice seems to grow and grow! The decor of the pub remains homely and with a good bunch of welcoming locals helps to bring the family feel to this pub. This once-decent pub has severely deteriorated since around early to mid 2005. As well as the pub's bizarre, increasing tolerance towards an "unruly element", it's interior has been falling to pieces month by month. The decor, fixtures & fittings are shoddy, many windows have remained broken for some time and the toilets are an utter disgrace. In winter, the pub can be as cold on the inside as it is on the outside. This is due to a neglected, out of date heating system. Customers have complained about this many times in vain. Any damage to the building, such as ripped seats, broken beading around door frames, broken windows and toilet systems, often go for weeks or even months without being repaired. Cleanliness could be greatly improved. There has been a noticeable high turnover of staff in recent months, as well as a noticeable lack of consistent leadership in the form of a strong-minded Landlord/Landlady. The area that serves food, known as the lounge, is considerably better than the side of the pub known as the games room. But this hardly makes up for the tense atmosphere, which has been apparent of late and which has been created by several groups of customers who have been allowed into the pub in recent months. The beer is of an average standard, if not a little limited in choice and most bottled beers arrive only slightly below room temperature, as most of the fridges don't appear to work. This has also been mentioned to "Management" on more than one occasion, all of which seems to have fallen on deaf ears. The once proud Haddon Hall has the potential of being a nice, friendly pub once again. But only strong, on-premises Management - backed up by regular visits from Area Managers (preferably at peak times) - will it turn the corner towards decency.[Report for Removal] Steve
