| This is not a bad gastro pub but it has gone from being our favourite to 'distinctly average'. Three visits during Feb / Mar '10 are enough. Time to search for a replacement eatery. | This was my 5th visit to the Ship Inn and I can honestly say the quality of the food has remained excellent the portions are a good size and the food good value for money, the staff and manager are friendly and helpful. - The fact that it is not child friendly to me is a bonus as its a pub not a restaurant and as such children do not belong in them sorry for you folks with children stick to restaurants that are child friendly but dont knock this place for not letting "little John or Mary in. People queue to get in to The Ship maybe apart from the food abd excellent service enjoy eating a meal in peace without children. | We have visited the Ship on quite a few occasions and have never received bad service or food. It makes a pleasant change to go out for a meal and for the place not to be over-run with children!!! In my opinion pubs are not the place for children, if you want to take your children for a meal there are plenty of other good places to go. | We visited The Ship last Sunday (06.09.09),it is in a very nice location, and having no children allowed in the bar area makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. It is a pity that more places do not do the same. The food was very good indeed, as was the beer. | Ambience quite good but that's as far as it goes. More renowned for it's food than it's beer, which is a shame since in my experience (two visits - won't go again) the food is vastly overrated. Upon my last visit I paid an exhorbitant £16 for a steak, half of which was fat, which was accompanied by four potato wedgies, a very small, bland helping of salad, and not a lot else. | We have used the Ship for several years now and have always found the quality of the food excellent and have been quick to recommend it , however our last visit we were a little dissapointed at the small portions served especially the steak and we would expect more as the food is not cheap!
