| Hello, This forum was pointed out to me by my neighbour. There are some really odd references made about the neighbours of this pub, of which I am one who lives two doors down with an adjoining garden at the rear. I want to make it absolutely clear that no-one wants this pub to be closed down, too many local business are going to the wall in Ross. On the whole things have got alot better since 2 years ago when the council imposed special measures to stop people taking their drinks out the front of the pub which caused a noise problem. So credit where credit is due for dealing with that problem. I count my friends among the patrons, and they really enjoy the pub and since i trust their judgement in most things it probably is a decent place to go for a pint, watch the sport etc. I choose not to drink there now following some unfriendly comments from the landlady's partner as a result of the noise issue so can't leave a positive or negative score about the pub itself. The problem of noise out the front was caused in my mind as a consequence of the smoking ban. That's out of all of our hands and is a problem for most pubs in residential areas, how different landlords deal with this issue will be the making or breaking of many of such-like pubs. As I bought a house next to a pub I was fully prepared for the up-sides and down-sides. I think there are responsibilities on both sides here, leniency from the neighbours (myself included) to expect a reasonable amount of disturbance due to factors outside the Pub's control and respect for the neighbours by the landlords. | I went to this pub during a canoe trip down the river Wye. I found the pub to be friendly and serving a good range of beers and spirits. There is a very friendly atmosphere - during my visit there was a rowing club having a get together and we had a great time laughing and singing songs. They loads of tv's all over the place and 2 sky boxes. Even one outside in the Garden. The garden is pretty good and comprises both covered and uncovered areas. Went outside for a jolly smoke and bumped into the landlord who is a very friendly person and having to have a chinwag. When in Ross, I'll probably go to this pub again 1) for the friendly atmosphere and 2) for the big beer garden. [Report for Removal] | Neil Wimbledon London |

| Hi,my name is Simon,I live close to the Horse & Jockey and have frequented this pub for a good couple of years. I have been reading some of these reviews and have noticed that several people all can't spell the word clientele.Hmmm.Could it be,perhaps, that they could all be the same person?A small faction of the neighbours don't want a pub on their street, even though it was there many years before them. Now for my view...What make ths pub so good is that there is always a warm reception, friendly atmosphere, great beer, large well kept beer garden complete with heated smoking shelter which even has comfy sofas to relax on and if that wasn't enough, they also have sky sports on a tv in the shelter, fantastic! Well done to all at the Horse & Jockey, for going the extra mile and keep up the good work,we all appreciate it![Report for Removal] | simon ross-on-wye herefordshire |

| I saw "Derek" (see review below) going round the pub pestering customers to switch their electric supplier to whoever he works for, and quite rightly got told to desist. Funnily enough, the "disgusted" couple are still regulars. Enough said.[Report for Removal] | Tom Ross on Wye Herefordshire |

| My car broke down outside this pub, so I called in whilst waiting for the RAC to help me. A middle-aged couple already inside the pub struck up a convesation, asking about me, my job, and were quite interested that I worked for an energy company, they asked me if there was genuine savings etc. The landlord came over to our table, and told me not to " talk business " in his pub !!!! The couple who had only just moved to Ross were shocked and digusted by this , and said they would be finding another " local ". I just walked out. [Report for Removal] | Derek coleford glos |

| I walked in to this scruffy litttle pub on wednesday during a weeks holiday in Ross on Wye. I'm not sure that half of the clientelle were of suficient age to be served at the bar, but it didn't seem to make much difference. I left after an hour or so as there was too much screaming and shouting.[Report for Removal] | Witheld Buckley Yorks |

| Four of us popped in to the Horse and Jockey to have a drink, some lunch and watch the Wimbledon men's tennis final 10 days ago. We could not have been made more welcome by Janis and Stuart. We had never been to the pub before and as visitors to the area, have no axe to grind. The food was very good both in terms of quality and value for money, the beer well kept and the service very friendly. It is a proper pub and the locals are lucky. | With regard to the review from "Charles" where are there ANY reviews or complaints from the neighbours on this site? why should they move out? Typical of the moronic clientelle and landlord to blame the neighbours for bad reviews from people who don't like this place. I had a bad experience here and am not a neighbour. Also us locals can spell you patronising idiot.[Report for Removal] | mark ross on wye herefordshire |

| where do i start, this pub is the best. this is coming from a local lad who enjoys going there.......alot and is a great place to meet people and mates. the landlord are great from the momment u go in to the momment you leave. The people who complain (moan) should grow and the only reason they give bad reviews is so the pub can be closed down and there property can go up in value. The beer is brilliant and the people off ross love it. and to finish it off the neighbours should move out. its a pub at the end off the night. u dont go there to read a book or stair at the walls!!!! u go to have a good time :P thats what i do. i will be coming down for a pint now :P ow and this is not the landlord....[Report for Removal] | Charles and liz Ross on wye hereford |

| One thing you can say about the famous (or infamous) Horse & Jockey is that it polarises opinions - you either love it or hate it. In this age of bland PC stuff it's a miracle. Thank God there are still proper pubs like this.[Report for Removal] | Eric ross on wye herefordshire |

| Where do I start?. Firstly, I was in Ross On Wye only last weekend for a boys golf trip. Due to the rather inclement weather on the Saturday, golf never took place. The decision was made to have a good day out have plenty of beers watching the rugby followed by the football. We found the Horse & Jockey which was actually just behind the hotel we were staying at. From the moment all 12 of us walked in, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Stuart and Jan were incredibly hospitable and made our day there all the more enjoyable. Stuart must of liked our singing as he put the jukebox on free play for a while, poor soul. Beer was of excellent quality as was everything including the service. Their hospitality and friendliness has definitely convinced me that on the next golf tour, I shall be hoping to go back to Ross. Thank you to you all at the Horse and Jockey we will be back.[Report for Removal] | Mark Sidmouth Devon |

| Having been a patron of the Horse and Jockey for some time and having seen some of the disgusting poison pen reviews that have been allowed to be posted on this site, I feel compelled to write. The truth is that there is a faction of local people and their friends seeking to damage the business and reputation of the Horse and Jockey for what ever reasons they may have. Part of this strategy is to post bad reviews every so often. In my opinion the Horse and Jockey is by far the best pub in this town. The bar staff are friendly and outgoing and have always got time for you. The facilities are second to none whether you want to watch the football, have a great meal or relax in the award winning beer garden. Dont be influenced by the negative comments posted by "Keith", "Mark" and their ilk. This is only my personal opinion, and don't forget one man's meat is another man's poison - The best thing to do is find out for yourself.[Report for Removal] | Tom Ross-On-Wye Herefordshire |

| This pub is dreadful and the landlady's husband writes his own reviews and posts them on here pretending they are from happy customers. Don't be fooled. The Horse and Jockey it is the only pub in the UK with special measures slapped on it by the council to stop customers congregating outside and causing a public nusance. Since this happenned the landlady's husband Stuart not shut up about it. Please avoid this god awful place![Report for Removal] | Keith Ross on Wye Herefordshire |

| I had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderfull Sunday lunch at the Horse & Jockey on the 19th April. The food and service were exceptional. The atmosphere in the bar was really good, with football being displayed and enjoyed by the locals. I'm happy to give this pub a 'excellent' rating.[Report for Removal] | KPAB Abingdon OXON |

| I have been a regular at the Horse & Jockey for over twelve years, and hope to be so for many years to come. Jan the current landlady is a real character, and works extremely hard to make the Horse & Jockey welcoming to an eclectic mix of customers. Jan's partner Stu and his daughter Cheryl add to the party atmosphere, give it a try you won't be disappointed. [Report for Removal] | Andy B Ross on Wye Herefordshire |

| What can I say but we stumbled on this gem of a pub after a frightful journey and after being greated by the landlady we were made to feel instantly welcome. The beer garden is so peaceful and really safe for children and dogs. It's a perfect place to eat the wonderful sunday dinner. We've been back often and it never disapoints![Report for Removal] | The family traveller birmingham west midlands |

| "The Famous Horse & Jockey" it's that alright. I also live in Ross and this pub has had a reputation for as long as I can remember. There are much better places to drink, The Kings Head, Hope & Anchor to name a couple or Wetherspoons for £1 a pint! It doesn't even sell the local award winning Wye Valley beers. Don't bother, there are much better places in Ross.[Report for Removal] | Mark Ross on Wye Herefordshire |

| The Horse and Jockey is a hidden treasure, there are many reasons why but I would greatly suggest you find out for yourself. However, I will state why I have become a local. As soon as you enter the friendly and very amusing property owners greet you, the drink is reasonable and enjoyable. The heated smoking area is a great pleasure for a smoker as well as the wide, well tended garden area to enjoy a drink in the summer. It is not like most pubs, it offers a real taste of what Ross-On-Wye is truly about. So please ignore the rumours that have been posted below. You have not had a true experience of Ross until you have been to the famous Horse and Jokey![Report for Removal] | The lady with the sunglasses Ross-on-wye Herefordshire |

| The landlord kept banging on about how he hates the neighbours to the point where i nearly died of boredom. Very poor quality beer, i didn't try the food unsurprisingly. | This is a horrible pub with a drunken and abusive landlord who promotes attacks on an elderly lady neighbour who objected to the noise. The landlord was extremely drunk by the time the pub closed and when leaving i was greeted with the very young clientelle being sick in the street. I will never go back here unless the pub changes hands.[Report for Removal] | Geordie Ross on wye Herefordshire |

| Our local, the Horse and Jockey is a friendly, unassuming sort of place, good for winding down in. There are normally two real ales, decently kept (the cellar equipment was recently revamped). Average pub prices. Basic food at very reasonable prices available most of the time. Footie on a big screen, but does not intrude too much. We will be in there a lot more when the smoking ban comes in.[Report for Removal] | Janet & Nick Ross-on-Wye Herefordshire |
