| Visited Beckford Inn on last week in July while on holiday in Tewkesbury. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made a fuss of our dog. We could sit anywhere with our dog and not confined as is usually the case to a certain area. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. Would recommend this pub to everyone. | My partner & I went for a meal at the Beckford on Thursday 27 March but unfortunately left never wanting to return. I ordered a pork Stroganoff with a timballe of saffron rice, priced at £16, an unusually high price so I was expecting an exceptional meal, i was to be disappointed. What i actually received was a bland meal of pork in a weak mustard cream sauce surrounded by bland boiled white rice, not as i expected tender pieces of pork cooked with paprika & sour cream & other constituents but definitely not whole grain mustard as i received! My partner had ordered gammon and chips which she said was very nice. When i complained about the meal which in my opinion contradicted the trade’s description, i was told that the owner was the chef for the night and the recipe he used was the same he'd used for 20 years. Having trained as a chef myself and worked at top restaurants in Warwickshire and London and cooked for Tony Blair and President Clinton i believe i know what I’m talking about when being critical of a meal. I thoroughly believe you get what you pay for, the meal i received in front of me was edible but not what i ordered and definitely not worth over £15. The Beckford Inn is very over priced and in my view is nothing more than over priced pub grub with pretensions not worthy of the skill of the kitchen staff. When we did complain we were told that if we didn't like the meal we were to not bother paying for the whole meal and leave immediately. We did pay for my partner’s meal and the drinks but did not pay for the pork & rice. The waitress who dealt with us was as polite as she could be given the messages she was told to deliver from the kitchen and we have no complaints as regards the restaurants staff, just the meal and the chef/owner. My partners meal was ok hence the one star. Over all very poor and very, very over priced,the chef and owner should know their limitations and stick to gamon and chips. | Good atmosphere, attractively furnished and stylish bar area. Staff are very friendly, effective and helpful. There is a real sense that the owners care about the quality of experience for the customer. Food is good - freshly prepared. The menu is changed regularly and there are a select number of daily specials usually including fish. I know - I eat there weekly![Report for Removal] | Sue tewkesbury glos |
