| My family have visited Dawlish twice yearly for the last three years, and have previously eaten, drank, played pool, watched tv and enjoyed the beer and conversation. The premises are in new hands and we will not return there. Having made sure that money had been tilled up for drinks, the landlady then instructed her assistant to tell us that our 14 yr old must be off the premises by 1900hrs and I gave assurance that this would happen. Somewhat taken aback by the hostility of this "welcome", and the flat and insipid bitter, we had a game of pool and made sure of our exit by 1830hrs. On our way out we were told that we were heading for the "wrong exit", as children were "not welcome" in or out of the bar entrance, and must only use the "family exit". As both doors are about 15 feet apart and both egress onto the main street, and as we were obviously leaving anyway, I questioned the staff as to the reasonableness of there requirement to have our son leave by a separate exit. The response was short and less than reasonable. I told the staff that a far pleasanter welcome was available at "The Lansdowne" just over the road, which would serve as our watering hole of choice for the remainder of our holiday. For down-right rudeness, the ferret staff deserve a special "Welcome to Devon" award. We, a married couple with a well-behaved 14 yr old son, attended at 18oohrs on Wednesday 18th July.[Report for Removal] | norman bucket sunderland durham |
