| I am rather amused by all these postive reviews about such a dreadful pub! Like one of the reviewers I too am from Devon and have had the misfortune of visiting "The Pig" with my husband last month! Ghastly would be an understatemnet! To be honest it was not top of our our list as we prefer more tradtional, quaint looking pubs, but we were hungry and thought we would give it a try. It amazes me that people can be so easily fobbed off with supposedly homecooked food! You could almost taste the plastic container my food came out of! Don't waste your money at such a place! | Simon and Linda at the ‘Pig on The Hill’ have always welcomed us and provided excellent service and a pleasant smile. Nothing is too much trouble for them even phone calls from the tables ordering more chips…..The meals are more than ample and the rolls are… well, I don’t know what sort of pig would not be fulfilled by one of their lovely rolls. As for Simon, “when he’s not throwing abuse at the customers”, he’s squirting them with his ‘super soaker’ or sharing a joke or two. We just can’t understand anyone who does not feel welcome at the ‘Pig’. Maybe, just maybe they haven’t got a life and need to get one……… [Report for Removal] | Ann & Andrew Davies Westward Ho! | Just thought I would check this site and see if anyone had wriiten any reviews for Pig on the Hill and was amused to see so many! I have have lived in Devon for many years and know the area well, including the Pig on the Hill and know exactly what it is like! Terrible! it is a blot on the landscape and I would hardly call the food home cooked. More reheated and prepacked! As for the landlord.... presumably we are talking about the bad tempered medallion man! Avoid it at all costs! | I have just returned from the pig on the hill, where I have enjoyed a superb family meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, the staff welcoming and efficient. We enjoyed a choice from both the main menu and also a fantastic specials board and the quality of food was exceptional in all cases. | Don't know what the bad revews are all about. I have just visited devon on holiday and desided to go to the pig on the hill for lunch, I to had a ploughmans and was presently supprised by the plate full of food that was put in front of me i found the staff more than helpful IT WAS LUCKY I DID NOT READ WHAT LOOKS LIKE PETTY MINDED UNFOUNDED REMARKS about a lovely pub otherwise i would have never gone in Gess this site dosen't work!!!!![Report for Removal] | Paul Southampton Hampshire |

| What nonsense from jim....really what planet are you on ? I too have eaten at this pub and whilst I agree that the Ales & Beers are very good, the food is atrocious, Indeed as Pauline & Chris Day have stated the bread rolls provided for the ploughmans are minute and normally a ploughmans is served with a generous slab or chunk of bread, but not here... I live in london and most of the places i frequent in actual fact do NOT charge for the bread. I also have had dealings with the stroppy landlord and agree that the pig is not on the hill but behind the bar. It is such a shame considering that the pub is in such a great location and I agree there is lots to keep the kids happy but there can be no excuse for poor service from the " front of house " staff.[Report for Removal] | David Sargeant Cambridge Cambridgeshire |

| Having read the review from pauline &Chris Day,i feel i would like to put the record straight.I have been to this bar/restaurant many times over the last three years,i can put my hand on heart say that both the gentleman behind the bar,the lady who runs the kitchen and all the staff at the "Pig On The Hill" are nothing but polite,entertaining and extremly good in the service,quality and friendly atmosphere they provide.I have eaten with my family and have had the ploughmans in this place 4/5 times and have never found the need to measure any part of my meal,if you ask for extra items in any shop/restaurant etc you have to pay for them...As a family man on holiday in Devon i can only say the Pig On The Hill is a fantastic place to visit and you are allways assured to get your fill at the pig on the hill!!!! | This is one of my favourite pu / restaurants in the area, I have eaten here on serveral occassion and find the food, service and staff to be of a very high standard. It is in a nice location away from the hustle of the town centres and you do recieve a traditional English pub atomosphere, also the child play area is superb for the little ones. | Our group have renamed pub 'Pig at the Bar'. Pricey food, when 'Ploughmans'(£7) arrived with a TINY bread roll, we asked politely for some more bread, two more rolls arrived with a BILL FOR £1.90!!! We overheard the barman say to the waitress " put this so they can see it!" When we queried the high charge, the barman became immediately aggressive, shouted across the bar- " you're OUT OF ORDER!", claiming the rolls were now'contaminated', and made big scene of tearing up the bill for everyone to see!!
