| The Red Lion has changed beyond all recognition since my last visit. It now serves food of a very high standard and my husband loved the real ale served from the barrels behind the bar. | This was our first visit ever to this Inn. Our first impressions were that it was clean and nicely furnished. We ordered our drinks and it was apparent that the barman was inexperienced as he was being coached by a female colleague. Everyone has to learn so this was not a problem. We took a menu and discussed between ourselves what we would like; the lady (who had been coaching the barman) overheard me suggesting to my partner that I might like the Lasagne and called over her shoulder "No Lasagne tonight..." We made our choices and ordered and paid for our meals. We sat at a vacant unlaid table and the same lady came and laid the table without a word. Sometime later she served our meal - again without a word. After we had finished our meal the plates were removed, again without a word: we were not asked if we enjoyed our meal - if we would like to order a desert or would like to order a Coffee. I personally enjoyed my food, my partner chose something from the menu that she had never had before and actually did not enjoy it but it was well presented and cooked nicely. That was unfortunate but would not have prevented us from returning in the future to try something different. What totally has put us off ever returning was the completely unfriendly atmosphere - neither of the staff made any attempt to make us welcome from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. They both need to take a course in Customer Service: one gets a friendlier reception by your average Tesco Checkout person - well done Tesco.[Report for Removal] | Richard HOLLADAY OKEHAMPTON DEVON |
