| Exceptionally overpriced for the quality of the cooking. Very average service- the waiting staff were not able to explain any questions we had about the menu. specials are available but we were never told about it. Steer well clear of the a la carte- more expensive than most in Honiton and one of the most average meals i've ever had. A real disappointment. Portions are tiny which is not a problem if the food is good but it wasnt in our experience. My chicken was very dry and came with all of four tiny roast potatoes. For a cost of about £22. | We have lunched at The Holt on previous occasions and have been impressed by the service and cuisine. However , we were disappointed ofter our visit on 26th August, firstly after being asked to vacate out table in favour of another customer and then the aroma and steam of cooking from the open kitchen caused my wife's eyes to water for several hours afterwards and our clothes needed an immediate dispatch into the washing machine !! The food was also not up to the usual standard - the chips were overcooked on many dishes and the crab sandwich ordered arrived as a very filling baguette and the flavour of the crab masked by the dressing in which it was served. | Lively Bar/Restaurant. Youthful & vibrant atmosphere - not for your granny if she wants to do her knitting, or if you like your pubs very quiet. Food good but a little pricey, however prepped well so you get what you pay for I think. Beer is wonderful with the full range of Otter beers including the new oh so tasty Otter Amber. Wish they got the odd guest ale in as well - although the 4 Otters are quite different so should suit most pallets. I think they are getting bands in and having film nights - a welcome addition to the tired (in places) Honiton High Street. Recommended if you want a lively yet relaxing night out! | I recently visited the Holt for our company christmas party and was less than impressed. The setting was not so great and the service was average but the food is simply terrible. What happen since last year? it look like the new chef and the manager can't cope. the turkey was wafer thin like Bernard Matthew sandwich meat pack, the gravy was water based cooking juices, the vegetables were raw. | This is not a Pub ! you can clearly see that mum & dad have bought the kids a place to entertain friends. my wife and I had 3 courses each and we managed to go home hungry ! the entrance is the smokers path by the way, lovely start to your meal . | The food is mediocre, service is ok but the prices are exorbitant. One day it's a gastro pub, the next day it's a grub place. Somehow the management thought that there would be big demand for this type of restaurant in Honiton and hiked up prices to the heavens.The food hasn't got the WOW factor anymore. | An absolute jewel in Honiton - excellent food. I have eaten at the Holt on several occasions and it never fails to impress with its menu, service and ambience. | Never again will we go to Holt. The barman just could not stop bad mouthing about another restaurant newly re openend in town, so unprofessional. I found the place filthy and the toilets disgusting. The restaurant was only marginally better. I also found it over priced, the size and quality of the portions has decreased, and were very embarrassed as our friends asked us to join them, after we recommended them to go there. We were offered a menu but the kitchen ran out of fish and 2 starters. No need to say that our friends were bitterly disappointed and my husband and I embarrassed.
