We last visited the Guildford in Feb 2005 and noted no obvious change this time around. It is a Good Pub Guide main entry and the description seems to remain accurate, although we cannot vouch for the food this year (which was good if a bit pricey in 2005). The bar staff still seem quite happy to maintain a ‘try before you buy’ policy and chat about the relative merits of the ales on offer. I suppose this and the interior make it worth paying a little extra for drinks – not cheap. It’s another popular drinking venue, so can get very crowded at peak times, the open nature of its design meaning that it will get very noisy in the main body. The little mirrored alcove right at the back is a much sought after refuge. I must say that this time around, we were somewhat disappointed to find that the table we managed to grab had not been cleaned, and showed no sign of being attended to during the time we were there (2 drinks). This was late afternoon, before the main rush. Worth a visit for the interior and range of beers.[Report for Removal] ESP
