| After experiencing friendly and courteous service at the Crown on 3 previous occasions we took the whole family back for a Sunday evening meal and were sadly disappointed. After ordering drinks and sitting in the bar area we were subjected to a whistling cold draft from the front doors being left open. After being told about the specific childrens menu by 2 staff and the fact that they could do small portions from the main menu, this did not materialise even after asking. So from memory we ordered our childrens meals. Our starters of pate came(normal size portions) with 2 fingers of "brioche" - nowhere near enough, as with many other eateries, to consume the pate. When requesting more toast, we were presented with a further 2 fingers to share between 2 people. This still was insufficient and we were then told there was no more brioche but a small basket of bread was left which enabled us to complete our starter. We were not offered any wine or water and when we ordered this, no cooler was offered for the wine, or tasting and no glasses until we realised these were not forthcoming and requested these. My wife's chicken came without the sauce that we clearly ordered, there was no horseradish to accompany my grossly overcooked steak and the french mustard that was offered and accepted was that dreadful dark brown catering mix rather than Dijon. We were offered some "free" veg in addition to our own that had clearly been over-ordered and had been declined by another table sitting adjacent to us. My wife and children then ordered ice-cream as dessert. My wife was unable to distinquish what flavour hers was supposed to be but certainly not the rum and raisin she had ordered and that has a quite strong and identifiable taste. We declined ordering coffee and whilst waiting to pay the bill spoke to some regular patrons who confirmed that The Crown had changed hands and had clearly acquired a reputation as losing its previously popular status. The staff whilst polite were far from enthusiastic and welcoming as they had been before.
