An excellent pub - friendly, good service, first-class beers and ales, with guest beers well worth a try. Food very good indeed; substantial, well-cooked meals, a good choice of dishes, with a couple of specials each day, including good veggie options. And home-made puddings to DIE for - apple crumble and good, well-made and hot custard (sadly a rarity these days); syrup sponge pudding, raspberry and apple crumble, apple pie - every day a selection of six or seven good, well-baked, traditional puds. The most difficult thing is that you have to choose between them! One thing we really liked was that they have the puddings available in two portions; what they called "small", (which was still double what most places offer) and what they called "normal", which was a huge bowlful, but so good I took it anyway.... All in all excellent value (main courses around £7/£8, cheap these days), easily the best option in Askrigg, and we'd certainly recommend it.[Report for Removal] Kate Shaw
