The Horseshoe has changed hands - its now a Baron's Pub. They took over just 7 days before our wedding reception (May 2010)- the previous owners didnt tell us so it was a bit of a surprise. Helen and her team were absolutely brilliant. The food was wonderful, service brilliant and their attention to detail was second to none. We have been back approximately once a month since and have never had a substandard meal...go on try it - you wont be disappointed![Report for Removal] Atkins

If you like good service and good food, please do not come to this pub! I went there with my family a few weeks back and the waiter was aggressive and impolite - if you didn't accept the bread and butter to start, it was like he might throw it at you! We were very rarely asked if we wanted any drinks. It was an age until our orders were taken. Some of us got the carvery which was not particularly exciting as was rather dry. I had steak pie which was obviously microwaved and was lacking in steak (only having three pieces of meat)! There was limited veggie options and was dry slop when received. It was also far too expensive for what it was! Please, everyone, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else!!![Report for Removal] Matt Field

We had 2 veggie dishes - nice filling but pastry too hard/old?? The fish pie was excellent as was the carvery. Desserts also great (although I had to ask for nuts on the sundae!). Location, atmosphere, beer and service perfect - 9/10.[Report for Removal] Jon

I went to the horseshoe last night (a monday) with 5 adult family members, one of whom lives in Warlingham. It was a very enjoyable night. Lovely pub, lovely waitress and very nice food. Couldn't fault any part of it and will definately return.[Report for Removal] Jackie

My vegetarian friend and I visited the Horseshoe last night. There is only 1 veggie dish on the menu. It looked disgusting and was inedible. In this day and age of healthy eating she was very disappointed. She can eat fish but the fish cakes and fish pie were both off! I had the carvery again very disappointing - dry meat and spuds and not a green vegetable in sight just sad carrots, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. The deserts were average apart from the awful custard which was out of a tin - I know because I cheat too! To cap it all there were 2 very annoying children who couldn't sit still at the table next to us. The loos were freezing - mind you, you wouldn't want to linger in there due to the naff music being played! Guess what - we won't go back![Report for Removal] Carolyn Hadland

The last 2 times we have visited the horseshoe, it has not been up to the normal excellent stardard ! The beef last night was very bloody, turkey was pink and for the last two occasions the roast potatoes have been hard and burnt, perhaps the standards have lapsed since you brought in the £4.95 carvery deal and are more busy?, also, no green veg or parsnips! just Red cabbage and carrots. staff very nice but must do better if you want to keep customers![Report for Removal] Jo F

My Wife and I ate at the carvery on sunday 7th of Dec 2008 and the quality of the food and service was EXCELLENT. And certainly good value for money, so much so we have booked Boxing Day dinner there. We would have loved to have booked for Christmas day, but not suprisingly it was fully booked. So we will make sure that we book early for next year. The staff were very helpfull and polite and the manager was very attentive and accomodating. We will most certainly be making this our regular drinking venue. [Report for Removal] John and Monique Schaaf

We went for the Carvery last night at 6pm just as it opened, and the food was excellent! Proper roast potatoes (not the frozen muck you get in Toby carveries) fresh tasty veg. Very friendly staff and nice clean tables, we are thinking of going back for Christmas or boxing day. would go again, although a little chilly in the restaurant untill they turned the heat on and we started our meal.[Report for Removal] Jo Faben

I hope the landlord gets to read this.We have just returned from the Horseshoe tues 28 /10/ 2008 We had the steak It was one of the best steaks we have ever had our plate where empty when finished. The conservetry was very nice and clean the service was quite good. But you let yourself down because the place is freezing. We would have stayed for desserts but could not get out to the car and warmth fast enough. So if you belive you are saving money by not turning the heating on you are wrong you are losing trade. Why do you not close down the conservetry in the winter nights and allow customers to sit in the ample rooms you have just in side.or even get some curtains fitted. On a sunney day or a warm night it would be great place but on a cold october night it is not going to do you any good.We came with the qbject of booking for a family party which would have been twenty plus.the food was great but the heatingwas off sorry. The refurbishment of the pub is of a good standard, however that is the only good thing about the revamped resturant. The staff were polite and friendly but they seem to be confused as to what they should be doing.we were offered only one menu which was rather fnacy food, quite pricey and very confusing as to what was to be served with what. The food took quite along time to arrive and was quite dry.The drinks order took forever to come that the next round my partner went to the bar to order himself. The dessert was served and then the waiter went to find the cutlery instaed of the other way round.WE felt that they have a long way to go befor they get it right.would not eat there again.bring back the old Horseshoe please.[Report for Removal] Linda Laws

Having been regular sunday carvery goers at the Horseshoe, we have been looking forward to the new re-furbed Horshoe. Although it looks lovely with the large rear conservatory, it lacks ambience for some reason, (the continuous 80's music doesnt help) and the service is quite frankly appalling (aside from the lovely 'mature' gentleman who is wonderful). We tried eating on a Saturday night of the opening weekend and the food didnt taste fresh and again the service was dire. We put this down to opening weekend nerves but it really hasnt improved. If the service was better I think we would be inclined to eat there again.[Report for Removal] Sharon

We have been regular customers at this pub/restaurant for several years. It has recently re-opened after a complete and long overdue renovation of the restaurant area at the rear. This is now larger & higher with double-glazed windows all around from floor to ceiling. The old carpeted floor has been replaced by 'posh' wooden flooring. All the tables are new with very comfortable armchairs. The frontage and bar area remain as before and the rear car park is unchanged. They used to offer a carvery but this now only operates on Sundays. The rest of the time there is a good selection of two- or three-course meals for a set £7.95 or £10.95 respectively. The food is well prepared although they could do with heating the plates a little better. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive and well 'turned out' and the old, small tissue napkins have been replaced with proper, large linen ones. Over-60s can join their own Gold Club which offers certain discounts. For example, if seated in the restaurant before 6.30pm - except on Sundays & bank holidays - you get a 20% discount on the food. The restaurant is open daily for lunches. We were very satisfied with our first meals at the new restaurant and certainly recommend it. [Report for Removal] Norman Fitch
