| I visited this pub/restaurant recently with two friends of mine and was very leased indeed with both the service and the food, as were my friends. I'm getting on in years now and do not eat much so again was pleased to see there was a menu for the older generation which, although smaller in quantity and price did not lack in quality. I would certainly recommend the Dolphin both to young and old and in betweens, thank you Dolphins.[Report for Removal] | Tony Case Braintree Essex |

| I visited this pub with my partner one lunchtime after hearing excellent reviews from people who had visited before, and we were not disappointed. We walked straight in to be greeted by very friendly staff who sat us in a lovely part of the pub, set us up a tab and provided us with menu's. We ordered from the lunch menu and i have to say my ploughmans was amazing. Both myself and my partner agreed it was the best pub lunch we have ever had, the food was fantastic, great quality and value for money, and we will definately be going back to sample the dinner menu next time. | I would thoroughly recommend anyone to sample the menu here, starters and mains alike were varied and flavoursome, the portions are extremely generous. We were greeted by friendly, helpful and smiling staff, who actually seemed to enjoy being there, nothing was too much trouble. My only negative comment if you can call it that was the dessert menu, a fairly limited choice and nothing chocolatey to choose, but that could just be a girl thing !? . Well done Dolphin.[Report for Removal] | Vanessa Braintree Essex |

| I booked on a sunday,by phone,Ashley answered and could not have been more helpful or constructive about the menu ,I explaned that we had two very good friends in the party of 5 who were from Canada, and wanted a traditional "Pub meal" in an "oldie worldie"setting, The decor was truthfully explained to me. We arrived and the meal was served very well all the food was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. The service was excellent,we had our meal in the "new" part of the building, and the general atmosphere of the area was very tastefull. I wish to congratulate the staff and owners for a very well organised ,fine eatery, I will certainly recommend the Dolphin to friends and family,I really think that the guy who compared it to Faulty Towers must have been somewhere else!!(that is putting it mildly!!!) | I took my mum here for Mothering Sunday, i must say the service was impeccable and the food was fantastic. Not the cheapest in the area but the portions were massive and i could of shared my meal with my mum. They were very accommodating with my little boy asleep in the pram - they sat us on a table with plenty of room to have the pushchair. I would definitely recommend this pub to friends and family and will be going back.Thank you to The Dolphin for making this a special day for the whole family. | On arrival of the dolphin i was seated by a rather arrogant young man, as we were sat at the table i could not help but notice the amount of dirt that surrounded my feet, noticing the restaurant was slightly busy i decided to pass this off as bad time keeping. As the starters arrived i found that my meat was cold and vbery bland, Following the starter my expectations were some what dampened. I ordered a very simple Ham Egg and Chips for my main, when this arrived my chips seemed as if they had been sitting in the fryer for a good part of the afternoon. Feeling at this point VERY VERY annoyed i aired my opinion to the manager and was not happy to see standing before me was a gentleman called Ashley who did not seem to want to take in the criticism that i had given him. Before the restaurant was very good but this has been some what ruined by maybe the arrival of a new head chef in the kitchen. My best advice to the Dolphin in Braintree would be maybe to employ a new chef and then possibly i would consider eating at your restaurant again......... Yours faithfully A Very Angry Consumer..........[Report for Removal] | Ross Sainty colchester essex |

| This is the best place I have found for good quality pub food, their steak is too die for. It keeps us going back time and time again. Always found the people very friendly and polite. Prices are very reasonable and wouldnt hesitate to recomend it to anyone.[Report for Removal] | carie groome colchester essex |

| I have visted this pub twice this year and had no complaints on either occasion. The food was good qality, generous proportions, and good value for money. You could not fault the service even though the restaurant was full. I would definately recommend it and will certainly return myself.[Report for Removal] | J Carter Halstead Essex |

| I would urge J. Birchley to revisit, as I think that review may have been of a time before the current owners took over. There now seems to be a husband and wife team running the place, with occasional help from the older generation of the family. They are working their backsides off as far as I can see; she does the food and serves on the lounge bar/restaurant side and he does the bar. All the staff have been very pleasant, and there is a nice contrast between the blokish, very local public bar and the poky, cosy restaurant. I have eaten here several times and the menu has always been short and somewhat variable in content (presumably as a result of availability of fresh produce) but never in quality - a consistently good standard of decent, hearty pub cooking. I have never seen the restaurant anything but packed to capacity on a Friday or Saturday night (the only nights I've been in) which must be some testament to both the quality of the food and the congeniality of the staff. | If you want a rude mine host who makes Basil Fawlty look good, go to the Dolphin. I Quote from Fawty Towers web site(Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) is probably the rudest hotelier in the world.) The BBC cannot have visited the Dolphin. [Report for Removal] | J Birchley Maldon Essex |
