My first visit to the Wayside Inn on Saturday evening for a meal will also be my last. There was nobody to take our order. After several attempts to catch a waitress's attention we were finally told that we had to give our order in ourselves at the bar. Obviously it being our first visit we had no way of knowing this and there wasn't even a little notice on the menu explaining the proceedure. After finally getting served at the bar(it took forever and they seem to serve the regulars first)I managed to order the meal. They have an extensive but not over inspiring menu. Our sea food platter for 2 arrived with a choice of 2 dips. Dips were lovely, but the "seafood" was so obviously from Iceland or somewhere similar. Nice enough but very processed. My partner ordered the fillet steak, not cheap at £17. I'm not sure exactly what cut of steak it was but it was definately not fillet. Very sinewy and needed a lot of chewing. Average frozen chips and a tiddly portion of veg My turkey and ham wasn't much better. The turkey ham and stuffing was actually quite nice but there wasn't much of it. The potates were definately instant mash and the roasties were hard in the middle.Carrots and parsnips must still be on the ration at the Wayside because I got about a spoonful. The place was also over run with children(QUITE LITERALLY). Some were still there when we left at 9pm. If I wanted to eat a meal surrounded by crying kids i'd have stayed at home and listened to my own [Report for Removal] Janice Graham
