The pub has always been closely associated with Desert Orchid and the racing stables in Whitsbury. The pub was closed for two months early in 2004 and was re-opened on Friday 16th April following a major refurbishment. Desert Orchid was the guest of honour at the opening and even managed a toast with Ringwood Best! The Cartwheel Inn at Whitsbury near Fordingbridge is the seventh pub to join Ringwood Brewery's estate. Situated in the heart of the pretty downland village, the pub is listed and dates back to the 18th century when it was 2 farmers' cottages. Later it was taken over by a wheelwright, hence the name. It then became the village bakery (the oven is still visible in the main bar) before being turned into a pub.
