In the heart of historic ROMSEY, just a minute's walk from the Abbey, the Star Inn is both a convivial local and an excellent base for exploring the town and many places of interest in the region. Built in the 17th century and originally a weaver's cottage, it was later extended to become the tap for the local Strongs Brewery and later Wadworth Brewery. Behind the smart black-and-white frontage the look is firmly traditional, with slatted floors, panelling, bespoke stools, tables and chairs and a log burning fire in a brick hearth. The inn has been run since June 2004 by Rod Wilson and supported by his wife Cheryl who extend an extremely warm welcome and excellent hospitality to all who pass through the doors. The inn caters for 40 diners and the menu provides for snacks and other tasty homemade food. Very popular are the Sunday roasts. Real ale connoisseurs have a choice of four ales and the inn is in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Entertainment includes weekly folk music sessions every Wednesday evening and live music every Saturday evening. Pub games are encouraged and the dart and crib teams are enjoyed and well supported by the local community. There is bed and breakfast accommodation offered including en-suite which is situated on the first floor and accessed by a stairway only. The en-suite and bathroom facilities were upgraded in March 2005. All rooms have television and tea making facilities.
