My daughter telephoned the red lion last tuesday to book a table for mothers day and was asked to call back wednesday to book. She duly did and the family arrived on Sunday at the allotetd time only to be told that no such booking had been made. We looked at my daughters iphone and you could quite clearly see the the telephone calls made in the register. The owner was quote rude and insited that there was no bookingand they had run out of food? My mother was very annoyed and had been taking a party of Ramblers (at least 20)there for years on a very regular basis and she will not be doing that any more. We had a drink at the bar before we left and looked at the food that had been served. We were not impressed and the plates were going back to the kitchen half eaten? Not the food that the Red Lion had become well known for. Very poor indeed and we were glad we did not eat there. We have since learnt that the Pub is under new management - Need to sort the food out and customer service skills. Telephoned the Robin Hood at Clacton and they went out of there way to make up a table and the food was fantastic. What a difference![Report for Removal] Graham

Went to celebrate mothers day, five of us in total. The food was really bad. Vegetables over cooked and soggy, roaast potatoes burnt and the yorkshire pudding should be advertised as a large burnt crisp! Will not be going there again. Understand its under new management. Well it depends what you go there for! I made the mistake of going in there just for a drink with some friends and wasnt made to feel welcome at all, in fact I wouldnt even go back if it was for the food! We were asked to sit in a small room with one table out and the rest stacked up, obviously a storage area , and it was obvious to me that we were not meant to be seen as we were not eating. Fair enough if this pub wants to be known for its food, but to alienate potential diners? I think not! The food is probably very good, couldnt see any being served from where I was sitting! Quickest drink I ever had! Oh dear![Report for Removal] Anne Chambers

This pub recently stayed open on a Saturday afternoon to serve drinks to myself and my family as I wanted to celebrate my 30th Birthday. The staff were really friendly, and I was chuffed that they had put up loads of decorations for us. We were the only ones in there, and they didn't mind that we brought our own cake. I have eaten there a few times in the past year and the food has been excellent.[Report for Removal] Lynn
